By bike

The Museum is well suited to visiting by bike. There are various national cycleways that weave through the village. You can find out more on the Sustrans Buckinghamshire page. The organisation has recently launched a new campaign called Free Range Kids. To get some great ideas to help your kids become more free range, and to add your voice to the Free Range Kids pledge, visit www.sustrans.org.uk/freerangekids

When you reach the Museum leave your bike in our courtyard, securely fastened to our fantastic new bike racks cunningly disguised as beautiful planters. Sit back and enjoy a delumptious and well-earned cake from Cafe Twit, before discovering the delights in the galleries.

If you would like to hire a bike, try Cycle Fleet 15 minutes walk from Great Missenden station. They also sell bikes and accessories and provide cycle maintenance services.

On foot

The Chilterns have a fantastic network of walks around Great Missenden, and many walks lead you through the village. There are various websites dedicated to walking nationally and locally that can give you detailed information about walking routes, walking safety and various walking groups. Both the Chilterns AONB and the Chiltern Society have information about the Chilterns, walking and riding maps.

Walking trails connect Great Missenden with various local villages. However you may find it easier to arrive by public transport, and walk on to the Museum, perhaps even follow one of the circular walks around the village after your visit.

Check out our 'How to find us' page for comprehensive details on how to visit us by bus or train.

The Museum also publishes two walks leaflets, the Village Trail and the Countryside Trail. These help you explore the local area with a little bit of Roald Dahl thrown in. Pick them up in the Museum, or download them here.
