Roald Dahl Day 2010

Roald Dahl Day 2010
Sunday 12 September 11am to 5pm

Come and celebrate Roald Dahl's birthday with us at the Museum and in Gipsy House garden. This is the fifth annual Roald Dahl Day, celebrating the work, life and multi-faceted legacy of one of the world's best-loved storytellers. Roald Dahl Day events and activities will be taking place nationally throughout September.

We're planning a jam-packed day of special events and activities at the Museum, all overseen by Miss Trunchbull in person, with guided Village Trails, magicians, face-painting and behind-the-scenes archive tours offering a rare chance to view original Matilda manuscripts.  Join Peter Bently and Mei Matsuoka, author and illustrator of The Great Dog Bottom Swap for some doggy tales and canine crafts (1pm and 3pm additional cost of £2 per person).

We are also delighted to welcome members of the Royal Shakespeare Company who will be encouraging visitors to release their inner mischievous child in Matilda Musical style workshops (11.30am, very limited places), in anticipation of their production Matilda, A Musical, opening in Stratford in November.

Roald Dahl's beautiful garden at Gipsy House, a short walk from the Museum, will be open free of charge for the day. Visitors can take a peek inside the author's famous Writing Hut and explore the maze and gypsy caravan which insprired Danny the Champion of the World.
